POSITION SUMMARY:


The Service Center Diagnostic & Repair Technician is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and documenting returned customer equipment and internal service units. This role applies principles of electrical and electronic troubleshooting, mechanical repair, and functional testing to restore products to proper operating condition.


The technician works closely with Service, Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to identify root causes, complete timely repairs, and ensure repaired equipment meets Avtron quality and performance standards. This position requires a hands-on individual with strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced service environment.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 


Essential Functions:

 

  • Diagnose electrical, electronic, wiring, software, and mechanical issues on returned customer equipment and internal service units
  • Perform repairs, modifications, upgrades, and component replacement on load banks and related equipment
  • Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, manuals, and technical documentation
  • Document diagnostic findings, repair actions, parts usage, labor time, and final test results accurately in service systems
  • Support warranty evaluations by determining probable cause of failure and documenting evidence
  • Perform firmware, controller, PLC, and system updates when required
  • Maintain repair benches, tools, test equipment, and work areas in clean and safe working condition
  • Follow all company safety procedures including LOTO, PPE, and electrical safety standards
  • Assist in development of repair procedures, work instructions, and troubleshooting guides
  • Train and support other technicians as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Strong troubleshooting ability in electrical and mechanical systems
  • Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Hands-on experience using meters, hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Must possess a strong sense of urgency and customer focus
  • Must be able to safely work around electrical equipment and lift up to 50 pounds

 



EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 


Education:

  • Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred


Skills:

  • Electrical and electronic troubleshooting
  • Mechanical assembly and repair
  • Root cause analysis
  • Computer literacy and ERP/service system data entry
  • Effective communication across departments
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment


Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in diagnostics, repair, manufacturing test, field service, maintenance, or similar technical environment preferred
  • Experience with industrial controls, PLC systems, or power equipment preferred
  • Experience working with low voltage and medium voltage systems is a plus
  • Experience in a manufacturing or service center environment preferred


 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position is performed primarily in a service center and manufacturing environment. The role requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, and frequent use of hands for tools, components, and testing equipment.

The environment may include exposure to varying noise levels, moving equipment, and energized systems requiring adherence to all safety procedures and PPE requirements.
